Behind the Music: Interview with Patawawa

‘If we do a good gig – with a sweet crowd – there’s no better feeling!’

What made you decide on creating disco influenced music? Well we are all into Disco music quite heavily and it’s Rory that makes all the tunes. He is one of the biggest Disco heads out there so its no surprise that all our music is Disco tinged!

Where is your go-to place for writing new tracks? It’s Rory’s bedroom. We go in there and smash out tunes on the reg. It’s a great space and seems to be working well currently!

What are you looking most forward to about your forthcoming Patourwawa tour? We are excited to play at all of those places! We are going to places that we have never played before so hopefully we can makes some new fans and create some serious vibes!! Our tour dates and locations can be found on our Twitter and Facebook.

Do you prefer performing live or recording in a studio? I think it’s different for everyone but I know that if we do a good gig with a sweet crowd there’s no better feeling!

Why did you become involved in music? Me (Sam) got into singing at a young age and did lessons throughout school. I then met Rory and started making tunes together in his dad’s studio under the stairs and it just went from there! We knew Beth from school and invited her down to sing on a tune, the rest is history!

What has music enabled you to do? Meet lots of people and have brilliant times! It’s also got me addicted to social media!

What was the first gig that you were involved in? Ermm, I can’t exactly remember the first gig I did but me and Rory were in a band before Patawawa called Final Straw. We played The Boardwalk in Sheffield when we were 14. It was lit!

Who was the first musician/band you saw live? I remember being at our school extravaganza and seeing a band called The Crookes playing, they were decent! The lead singer is now in a Sheffield band called Wulfman Fury who we saw play at the weekend for the first time! Mad tings!

Who are your inspirations? Lots of old and new artists. Like Chic, Heatwave, Sister Sledge through to newer artists like Franc Moody, EKKAH and Chromeo.

Any interesting facts about yourself you would like to share? It was my birthday a few days ago and I turned 26! Hurrah!
